Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a major film company and bringing viewers to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a brief look into the plot but leaving fans curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang
The preview shows Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is what Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge pinned to her outfit.
It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
